Changing jobs is stressful. Working with a legal recruiter can help, but how can you tell if a recruiter has your best interests at heart? How do you know that they’re steering you to the opportunities that are right for you rather than the ones that are right for them and their business?

Before choosing a recruiter, seasoned recruiter Valerie Fontaine says there are seven questions every attorney should ask to figure out if they have your best interests at heart and can help steer you to the job opportunities that are right for you, rather than the ones that are right for their business.

With over forty years’ experience in the business, Fontaine is quite simply a veteran of legal recruitment. She’s been in the business since 1981, founded her own search firm SeltzerFontaine, and serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (otherwise known as NALSC). She is also a qualified lawyer herself having gained her JD from UC Hastings College of Law.
